Dear Parents, Players & Fans, Well, here we are and once again it is all said & done. Another season has been brought to a close. All I can think about is what a great group of seniors we have had to lead us through a long, grueling GCL football season. To put it all in perspective, one must go back a ways to 2004. This group was 0-9 as Freshman and had a lot of classmates quit along the way. I am so proud that these young men chose the difficult, sacrifice-laden road less traveled that led them to many great achievements and new heights as people of character and determination. During senior week, Coach Jackson mentioned to the seniors that they must keep their season in perspective. That although a 5-5 season by everyone’s standards is an underachievement, they must keep in mind the collective accomplishment of their 4 years at Badin. Through their efforts the fortunes of the program have turned around. When we ALL arrived here 4 years ago, Badin had not won a GCL game in 3+ years. This group of seniors helped us reinvigorate the program and not only get us winning again, but helped us bring back a GCL Championship last season. If it was not for an “inadvertent clock malfunction” they would have made it back-to-back GCL Central Championships. The good news is this - everyone knows that a trophy does not indicate who is and who is not a champion! That mark is left on one’s heart, not on a trophy or plaque! So, I say to the Senior Football Class of 2007 and those who supported them – Congratulations! Thank You! We love you! Our final game was a fun one! It is always exciting to step on the field vs. Fenwick. Since the 2004 season it has been a very special week for the program and for me personally when we play Fenwick. The staff was excited, our guys played with tremendous enthusiasm and had a great demeanor going into the game. For the second year in a row we completely dominated the Falcons, winning 35-7. To follow that, our JV team went up there the next morning and put up an impressive victory against the JV Falcons as well. The most impressive part of which was that over half the kids on the field at any point in time during that game and every other JV game this year were freshman!!!! The Junior Varsity squad (led by Coach Nichols & Coach Malone) finished an incredible 8-2, earning them a co-GCL Championship. They posted impressive, dominating victories over: Jefferson, Turpin, Wyoming, Roger Bacon, Chaminade, Carroll & Purcell. They leave little doubt to any of us that the future of Badin Football is very bright! I cannot say enough ‘thanks’ to those who made the Freshman merger go so smoothly. Everyone from the players, parents and coaches made things go as smoothly as possible. We are incredibly grateful to the seniors who have contributed so much to the program. We are glad that they went out with a “bang”. Our underclassmen are now challenged with improving the program even more and taking us back to the playoffs. The off-season program cannot start soon enough. The 2008 season cannot start soon enough. I am very excited about an off-season free from distractions. Since I recently moved my family out here near Badin I hope there will be no more rumors about other jobs this winter. I am also glad that there will be no other football teams taking away from my time with the Rams this off-season as the West All-Star team did last year. Its full-steam ahead to 2008! We have a GCL Title to re-claim and a playoff spot to earn! “State in ’08!” God Bless! ~Coach Wirth |

Coach Dave Wirth (Jr.)
Coach Wirth began his coaching career at Moeller H.S. in 1995 on the Junior Varsity level working with the Offensive Line. He spent 6 years as an assistant at Moeller, working for the well-known and much-respected Coach Steve Klonne (2 Ohio Division 1 State Championships, 3 Runner-Ups and 1 USA Today National Championship). While at Moeller , Coach Wirth coached entirely on the offensive side of the ball. The Crusaders took a trip to the 1997 Ohio Division 1 State Championship where they fell to Canton McKinley. Coach Wirth tutored many Moeller players who went on to stellar NCAA Division 1 football careers, as well as many who continued playing in NCAA Divisions 2 & 3. In 2002 Coach Wirth had the opportunity to join the staff at Covington Catholic H.S. in Northern Kentucky and work under legendary coach Lynn Ray (5 KY State Championships, 6th all time in wins). It was under the defensive-minded Coach Ray where Coach Wirth came to coach on the defensive side of the ball, serving as Defensive Coordinator in his final two seasons with the Colonels. The Colonels advanced into the 2nd round of the state playoffs every year Coach Wirth was there and reached the State Semi-Finals in 2002. Coach Wirth also directed the Cov Cath ‘huddle’ of the F.C.A. (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). In December of 2003, legendary Badin coach Terry Malone announced his retirement from coaching. Coach Malone retired as the All-Time winningest coach in the history of Ohio High School football with 360 wins! Coach Wirth, along with 35 other coaches from numerous states applied for the Badin coaching job. After numerous rounds of interviews Coach Wirth was offered the job in February of 2004 and has since rebuilt the Badin program back into a G.C.L. and city power, winning the G.C..L..-Central Championship in 2006. When Coach Wirth came to Badin, the Rams had not won a G.C.L. game in 3+ years. In Coach Wirth’s first season at the helm the Rams went winless in the league but narrowed the margin significantly. In his 2nd season they finally broke the “streak” and got back into the G.C.L. win column. In his 3rd year coach Wirth led the Rams to a 7-3 record, a G.C.L.-Central Championship and wins over teams the Rams had not beat in 5-6 years like Roger Bacon and Dayton Chaminade. In 2006 Coach Wirth was named the Ohio AP Press Division IV Region 16 ‘Coach of the Year’, the Journal News ‘Butler County Coach of the Year’ and the GCL Central ‘Coach of the Year’ as well. His peers in the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association (S.W.O.F.C.A.) elected him to be the Head Coach of the 2007 WEST All Star Team. Coach Wirth has spoken at numerous Coaches Clinics on the Rams’ Off-Season Strength & Conditioning program, a program that emphasizes the development of explosive power, speed & quickness. Badin’s off-season football program ranks 2nd to none in the area and has some of the best facilities & equipment in the area to train its athletes. When coming to Badin, many of Coach Wirth’s peers in the area told him the Ram’s would never be fast or athletic enough to compete in the league again or with bigger schools. Four years later the Rams are widely known as one of the more powerful, quicker and faster teams in the area. Coach Wirth has been married to his wife Theresa since 2000 and has two beautiful daughters, Hannah & Rebecca. Coach Wirth is also the Membership Director for the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association and Co-Director of its annual High School All-Star game.
